McClaren watches Beckham play against celebrities
England coach Steve McClaren has been criticised for travelling 5,000 miles to watch David Beckham play in a charity match.
Beckham is expected to return to the England squad for a friendly in Austria later this month and McClaren travelled to Los Angeles to check on his fitness.
But Beckham was playing for LA Galaxy against a team called Hollywood United in a fundraiser to help people affected by the recent wildfires in California.
The Hollywood United team included former international defenders Franck Lebouef and Richard Gough along with Def Leppard guitarist Viv Campbell and Without A Trace actor Anthony LaPaglia in goal.
The match raised $72,000 (£35,000), but Beckham was hardly pushed to the limit as Galaxy won 12-4 and Beckham scored twice.
Former England captain Terry Butcher said: "For the England manager to be watching that is farcical. What can Beckham show the England manager in that sort of game?"
