Adelaide feels the heat

Adelaide feels the heat The Australian city of Adelaide has officially recorded its first November heatwave.

It was confirmed when the temperature topped 35C (95F) for the fifth day in a row.

Residents headed for the city's beaches, trying to cool off in the sea and seeking shade from the hot sun under a pier.

The city's wildlife has also been feeling the heat.

A woman in Adolescent, a suburb of Adelaide, was surprised to find a thirsty koala on her doorstep in search of water.

"I opened the door and there was a koala and he just let himself in, and we gave him lots of water and called the ranger," said Tanya Caruso.

Meanwhile firefighters battled to contain a huge blaze at a hay producing business in the Yorke Peninsula, west of Adelaide.

It was reported that 20,000 bales of hay were destroyed in the fire.

It took 200 firefighters several hours to bring the blaze under control, and the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
