Diana's final minutes with Dodi shown

The jury at the inquest into the death of Princess Diana has seen her final tender moments with her lover at the Ritz Hotel in Paris.

Diana and Dodi Fayed, accompanied by Henri Paul and bodyguard Trevor Rees (formerly Rees Jones) await the arrival of the Mercedes to take them away from the hotel to Mr Fayed's flat.

During a seven-minute wait in the spartan hallway, Diana is shown standing in a distinctive pose, her head tilted slightly to the left, leaning into Dodi who is on her right.

The grainy footage shows the Princess bending her arm behind her back to clasp Dodi's hand. Later he gently rubs her back.

As a plan to escape the awaiting paparazzi was formulated, Diana and Dodi emerge from the back door of the hotel, running past some roadworks and across the road into the waiting car.

But the footage also appears to show Mr Paul waving at photographers just moments before they depart.

Diana is seen to raise her hand to cover her face but despite their efforts to leave in secret, the car was surrounded by photographers immediately and pursued by scooters and a 4x4 as it pulled away.

But the couple never reached the apartment where, his family believe, he was to present her with an engagement ring.

Mr Paul crashed into a pillar in the Pont de l'Alma underpass with the Princess and her lover in the back in the early hours of August 31 1997.

Earlier, the jury heard Mr Paul had spent time in a bar at the Ritz in the hours before the crash.

He is seen going into the bar shortly after 10pm. The jury has already heard that blood tests showed Mr Paul was over the drink-drive limit.

The acting head of security at the Ritz went off duty at 7pm on the night of August 30. But three hours later, when Dodi and Diana unexpectedly returned to the hotel followed by paparazzi, he was summoned to return.

It is unclear where he spent the intervening three hours but the jury watched images from cameras at the hotel showing Mr Paul returning in his Mini at 10.05pm.

Moments later he is seen walking straight into the hotel's Bar Vendome, where bodyguards Mr Rees and Kes Wingfield are already waiting.

Dodi's father, Ritz owner Mohamed Al Fayed, insists Mr Paul was not drunk and that the samples were switched.

On Wednesday, coroner Lord Justice Scott Baker told the jury: "He ordered two Ricards... in the Ritz following his return after 10pm. But had he had anything more to drink between 7pm and 10pm?

"In that period, he would perhaps have been entitled to assume that he would not be coming back to work that evening."

The jury of five men and six women were also told that Diana was on the contraceptive pill when she died.

But, Lord Justice Scott Baker told the jury concerning allegations the Princess was expecting a baby: "It is likely that pregnancy is not a matter that can be proved one way or the other in scientific terms in this case."
