Builder takes revenge over unpaid bill

A builder took a sledghammer to a customer's porch and conservatory after she failed to pay him.

Nigel Gray was owed £22,000 for the work but reached the end of his tether after a string of excuses and missed deadlines for payment.

So he took an 18lb sledgehammer to the red-brick porch, complete with its red-tiled roof, in Shoreham, West Sussex.

He also removed the large back garden conservatory, window pane by window pane, and then went back for the French doors.

Father-of-four Mr Gray said: "I'm absolutely gutted to have had to have done this because it was such fantastic handiwork but I could not just let this go.

"We just kept on getting a string of excuses and bounced cheques. One time I was told her husband had died, but when I spoke to her son he knew nothing about any death.

"It was getting ridiculous and after a number of cheques had bounced and after being given the run around for so long, we decided we had to take drastic action."
