Designers and chefs have teamed up in New York for a chocolate-flavoured fashion show.

Models in chocolate armour portrayed a range of superheroes, from Batgirl and Barbarella to Ironman.

Most of the models at the cancer charity fundraiser only got to take one trip up and down the runway before their outfits began to melt.

One designer tried to get around the problem by mixing corn syrup and cocoa to create an edible material with a similar consistency to leather.

Pastry chef Dina Sadik said chocolate was "a merciless element" to work with.

She added: "It shows no mercy, it has no mercy. You have to have your timing, you have to have the temperature, you have to have the humidity right. Everything has to be right. You have one shot at it, one shot."
