The Algerian national football team's bus was stoned by Egyptian fans as they arrived at their hotel ahead of their match with the Pharaohs. There was no serious casualties with only three players slightly hurt.
The incident has not helped relations between the two countries with both sides fans blaming the other.
Algeria sit top of in Group B in the African section of the World Cup qualifying campaign with Egypt three points behind them. Egypt need to beat Algeria by three clear goals to progress to the finals in South Africa.
However If the current African Cup of Nations champions beat their north Africa rivals by two goals, Egypt will force a play-off in Sudan as both teams would be tied on goal difference and goals scored.
If Algeria can avoid anything more than a one goal defeat, they will be going to the World Cup finals for the first time since 1986, However if Egypt can win in front of their home fans it will be their first appearance in the tournament since 1990.
