Fears over Britney's welfare

Britney Spears has been admitted to hospital after police were called to her LA home following a custody dispute stand-off.

The 26-year-old pop singer was escorted from her hilltop home on overlooking Beverly Hills on Thursday night in one of three ambulances that was part of a convoy of nine police vehicles and a handful of other cars.

Spears reportedly locker herself in a room and refused to hand over one of her sons, one-year-old Jayden James, to the bodyguard of her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, as planned.

LAPD spokesman Jason Lee said police were called to her house about an hour later to try to resolve the dispute.

The singer was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre for an evaluation, and made a rude hand gesture to paparazzi as she was brought out of the ambulance restrained on a stretcher. One of her two sons was also at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Federline is reportedly trying to stop her from seeing her children and his lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, may push for the singer to lose visitation rights for the time being.

Kaplan is expected back in Los Angeles Superior County Court and could request Court Commissioner Scott Gordon has Spears stripped of her remaining custody rights out of safety concerns for their children.

K-Fed currently has full custody of Jayden and his two-year-old brother Sean Preston.

In October, Spears was ordered to relinquish custody of her sons because the Superior Court Commissioner said she was a "habitual, frequent and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol".

She was allowed to see her sons only if a monitor was present and the visits could be cut short if the monitor decided Spears's behaviour endangered the children.

She was also ordered to undergo random drug and alcohol testing twice a week.

A few days later, she was officially charged with misdemeanour hit-and-run and driving without a licence, which was later dismissed.

After taking her case to the High Court, the star won modified visitation rules that allow her two boys to spend one night a week with her.

Spears still faces a misdemeanour case of allegedly driving without a valid licence. This week her lawyer said he wants prosecutors to prove that the pop star is a permanent California resident.

The pop star has reportedly checked into rehab once before in February last year, then checked out again within 24 hours. The following night Spears went to a Los Angeles hair salon and shaved her own hair off with clippers.
