At least two killed in huge power plant explosion

At least two people have reportedly died in a huge explosion at a power plant in Middletown, Connecticut, USA.

American news network CNN quoted officials as saying that the death toll is expected to rise. Dozens more are believed to have been injured.

CNN also reported that more than 100 emergency service units have made their way to the scene.

The blast happened at the Kleen Power Plant at approximately 11:30am local time.

Residents of the area surrounding the power plant reported hearing a loud bang, which shook their homes.

Lynn Townsend said it felt like an earthquake. She said when she went outside to investigate, she "saw a very big explosion and a bright orange flame between the two smokestacks on the power plant."

No details were immediately available, but police are advising people to avoid the area.
