Liverpool and Manchester City produced a game of two halves, drawing 2-2 at Anfield in the Premier League.
Rafa Benitez's side started well, gaining the first real chance after five minutes from a free-kick when a Daniel Agger flick-on saw Martin Skrtel's header saved brilliantly by Shay Given.
Agger, however, was injured in the incident after clashing heads with Kolo Toure and carried off suffering from concussion to be replaced by Sotirios Kyrgiakos.
Benitez's injury problems became even worse when Ryan Babel was hurt in a collision with Nigel De Jong and was substituted for Yossi Benayoun.
After the break the game changed with Liverpool taking the lead when Skrtel got a boot on the end of a Gerrard free-kick.
That goal sparked City into life and after a period of pressure equalised from a set-piece of their own with Emmanuel Adebayor heading home a Craig Bellamy corner.
Mark Hughes' side were then in the ascendancy and shocked Anfield by taking the lead after Shaun Wright-Phillips turned Kyrgiakos and squared for Stephen Ireland to slot into the far corner.
That lead only lasted 74 seconds with Benayoun getting on the end of David Ngog's deflected cross.
Liverpool tried to find a winner, but will think they have lost another two points in the title race, while City drew their sixth Premier League game in a row.
