Goody's boyfriend jailed

The boyfriend of reality television star Jade Goody has been given an 18-month jail sentence after being convicted of attacking a 16-year-old boy with a golf club.

Jack Tweed, 21, of Buckhurst Hill, Essex, was jailed after a trial at Chelmsford Crown Court.

Tweed denied assault with his friend James Mattock, 29, of Ongar, Essex, on Daniel Steele, now 18, in December 2006.

Prosecutors suggested that the two men were "teaching a lesson" to the teenager.

The court was told that Tweed had been the subject of abuse from local youths and had been involved in an altercation with a group of teenagers, which included Mr Steele, shortly before the attack.

The judge, Recorder Mark Lucraft QC, said the evidence suggested that each man may have been armed with a golf club.

He said: "Hitting someone about the head with a weapon is an extremely dangerous thing to do."

The court also heard that mother-of-two Ms Goody is suffering from "advanced and life threatening" cervical cancer.

Ms Goody, 27, who rose to fame after appearing on the Big Brother show will undergo an operation in the near future.

A Barrister representing Tweed said Ms Goody faced, "a long road of pain and distress".
