Mentalist star Owain Yeoman is lifting the lid on the strange, unseen world of US TV auditions.

He made his movie debut in Troy, playing the captain of the Trojan army, and currently appears as cop Wayne Rigsby in the hit US TV show.

But the actor - one of a number of Brits to find their face fits Stateside - admits it wasn't always plain sailing.

He said: "They put you in a room with about 100 people and they're all sitting there in suits saying 'do we want to pay this for someone we've never heard of?'

"And the answer usually is no. And if you're lucky enough to get through that one, they'll take you into another room."

Owain lives in Los Angeles with his wife, actress Lucy Davis, who is the daughter of comedian Jasper Carrott.
