Will Smith's weighty movie

Will Smith stepped out in style in Los Angeles with co-stars Woody Harrelson and Rosario Dawson for the premiere of his new film.

Smith has reunited with The Pursuit of Happyness director Gabriele Muccino for the movie Seven Pounds.

The actor's Fresh Prince of Bel-Air co-stars Tatyana Ali, who played Ashley Banks, and Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Carlton Banks, also attended the screening.

Despite making his name in comedy, Smith's latest flick shows his more emotional, subdued side.

"I call them male chick flicks. You know, where men can allow their female side to come out. In a safe, manly kind of way. So that's that end-of-the-year kind of vibe," Smith said about the movie.

Smith said he was drawn to the character, Ben Thomas, for his approach to mistakes he has made in his life.

He said he has made plenty himself: "There's tons of mistakes. I tend to not view them as mistakes. I tend to view them as 'necessary mis-steps' in order to learn where the landmines are. You step the wrong way one time, you're not going to do that next time."

Smith has had 12 films open at number one in the US box office, including his last four - Hancock, I Am Legend, Hitch and The Pursuit of Happyness.
