Premiere praise for Hugh Grant

Hugh Grant's new found singing ability has been given special praise at the premiere of his new movie.

He plays an 80s pop star who gets a second chance at the big time when he is given the opportunity to write a song for a pop diva.

The film, Music and Lyrics, sees Hugh singing himself - a task he had dreaded because he insists he can't bang out a tune.

But his co-star Drew Barrymore, who as Sophie helps him write the lyrics, told fans in Leicester Square the reluctant performer had been a real star.

She said: "I think he made a tremendous popstar. I must tell you what absolute guts it takes to get out there at 7am and sing in front of hundreds of people you don't know. He did it. He pulled it off."

Hugh insists computers made his singing sound better. The film opens on Friday - in time for Valentine's Day.
