Bellfield trial: woman describes attack

A woman has described to a court how she tried to crawl away after being run over by alleged bus stop killer Levi Bellfield.

Kate Sheedy, 21, told the Old Bailey she had a "sixth sense" that something was wrong when she saw the white people carrier across the road as she made her way home.

After the former convent school head girl, who was 18 at the time of the attack, crossed the road to avoid the vehicle, it flashed its headlights, revved its engine and sped towards her.

The blonde teenager, who was just yards from home after celebrating her last day at school, tried to run as she saw it approaching.

But the car knocked her down and ran her over, before reversing over her and then speeding off.

The attack in Isleworth, west London, left her with a life-threatening crushed liver and tore open her lower back.

But she made a full recovery after a year and is now studying history and drama at university.

Reliving the aftermath of the attack, she said: "I tried to stand up. I stood up and fell straight back down to the ground again.

"I did try and shout for help but it was barely a whisper. Very little noise actually came out.

"I was determined I was going to get home. I didn't really realise I'd just been driven over twice.

"I continued to crawl a distance and then collapsed, at which point I realised I had very serious injuries."

The attack took place in the short distance between the stop where she got off a bus and her home, and her mother was first to find her after Miss Sheedy called her on her mobile phone.

Bellfield, 39, denies the attempted murder of Miss Sheedy in May 2004, as well as the murders of students Amelie Delagrange and Marsha McDonnell.

The former nightclub bouncer and wheelclamper also denies attacking hairdresser Irma Dragoshi and teenager Anna-Maria Rennie.
