BMI awards dished out

Bryan Ferry and Lily Allen have been honoured for their song-writing skills at the prestigious BMI Awards.

The awards recognise the most played songs on US radio and television.

Allen's Smile track won her a gong, but the singer revealed she also has another reason to celebrate.

She has received her visa to work in the US after being banned for being involved in a scuffle with a photographer.

She said: "It means I can go on tour there and finish off what I started which is something I've wanted to do for a long time."

Bryan Ferry was named BMI Icon for his 40-year career.

He said: "The first couple of years were really full of excitement and I think some of the live shows are great memories as well."

Jay Sean also collected a prize for his part in writing High School Musical star Corbin Bleu's single Deal With It.
