A woman who is reportedly 70-years-old has given birth to twins, making her the oldest woman in India to do so.

According to Indian Broadcaster TV Today Omkali Singh Panwar and her 77-year-old husband, Charan already have two married daughters and five grandchildren, but they were desparate to have a son.

The father expressed great joy at the birth of the newest additions to his family, he said: "It is a matter of great joy, that in my old age God has blessed me with two kids to support me in my old age."

The mother, who had to have an emergency caesarean section, was happy but tired.

The twins are currently under observation because they were born a month early.
