Wayne Rooney scored the only goal as ten-man Manchester United beat LDU Quito 1-0 in the Club World Cup final.

Rooney was on target with a curling shot in the second half after United had dominated the match in Yokohama, Japan.

But they had to play most of the second half with ten men after Nemanja Vidic was sent off.

Vidic was shown the red card for elbowing Claudio Bieler.

He will be banned for the away leg of the Champions League tie against Inter Milan in February as a result.

The ban could even be extended because Vidic was punished for violent conduct.
