Amanda Knox completes evidence in Kercher trial

Amanda Knox has completed her evidence in the Meredith Kercher murder trial.

The 21-year-old American student is on trial with her Italian boyfriend Rafaelle Sollecito for the killing in November 2007.

Under cross-examination by the public prosecutor, Knox repeated an allegation that she had been beaten into giving false statements by police.

But she told the court in Italian: "I don't know the name of the police woman who did it."

Knox said she only incriminated Patrick Lumumba, the owner of the bar where she worked, due to pressure from investigators.

The Congolese businessman was briefly jailed before being cleared of any involvement and is now suing Knox for defamation.

Knox said: "It's not that they told me: 'It was him' but they said: 'We know you have met him'.

"They wanted me to say a name. They told me that I knew, and they want to see if I didn't remember or I was stupid and a liar."

Knox said police told her: "If you don't tell the truth, you are going to jail for 30 years."

Knox told the court she burst into tears after naming Lumumba but believed she would be able to explain why she had involved him afterwards.

Knox and Miss Kercher were foreign students at the University of Perugia when the victim's body was found in the apartment they shared.

Prosecutors say she was stabbed in the neck when Knox, her boyfriend Rafaelle Sollecito and a third person tried to involve her in an orgy. Knox and Sollecito deny any wrongdoing.

A third suspect, 21-year-old Rudy Guede, was sentenced to 30 years in prison late in 2008 for complicity in rape and murder at a separate trial in the case.
