Charity riders head for Brighton

Thousands of cyclists are taking part in the annual London to Brighton bike ride.

An estimated 27,000 people are attempting the 54-mile tour in a bid to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

Participants begin the challenge at Clapham Common in south London will proceed through Wandsworth, Sutton and Sussex to finish at Brighton seafront.

The event, which takes the average rider six hours to complete, is thought to be the largest charity cycle ride in Europe.

The ride has raised about £42 million for the charity over the last 28 years.
