Student killed in 'horrendous attack'

A murder hunt has been launched after a mother returned home to find her student son dead.

Michael Jones was found at the flat he shared with his mother in Edmonton, north London.

The 18-year-old had suffered serious head injuries, Scotland yard said. His body is still in the flat while police continue investigations.

Police said there was no apparent motive for what they described as a "horrendous attack".

Michael, a geography student at Queen Mary, University of London, was described as "a hardworking lad".

"We are appealing to anyone who may have seen Michael on March 13 either leaving his flat or in the area nearby," Detective Chief Inspector John Macdonald said.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone who noticed anything suspicious in Stanley Road or noticed anyone entering or leaving the family home.

"Michael was a hardworking lad who had been studying hard at an East London University.

"He does not appear to have been in trouble before and at this early stage there seems to be no apparent motive.

"He suffered an horrendous attack in his own home and we urge anyone who can assist to contact us as soon as possible."
