Hollywood heart-throb George Clooney has splashed out on a new car for an Italian woman after running into the back of her vehicle in a minor accident.

The 47-year-old actor hit the woman's Lancia Ypsilon and accepted the blame for the incident that happened in Pennabilli, central Italy.

On picking her car up from the mechanics, the woman saw that Clooney had spent almost £14,000 on a newer version of the vehicle and had left an apology note on the windscreen.

It read: "I'm so sorry. Hope you'll forgive me. George Clooney."
