Brits to honour Robbie Williams

Robbie Williams will crown his comeback with an outstanding contribution to music award at next year's Brit Awards.

The 35-year-old star, who already holds the record for winning more Brits than any other artist, will pick up his new gong on February 16.

Organisers said the singer will close the show with a "sensational" live performance at London's Earls Court, as millions of viewers also watch live on ITV1.

Williams, who has amassed more than 55 million album sales worldwide, triumphantly opened the BBC Electric Proms on Tuesday with his first full concert for three years.

The singer already has 11 Brits under his belt for his career as a solo artist. His first came in 1999 - for best British male artist - and he went on to win that award three more times.

Previous recipients of the outstanding contribution award include the Pet Shop Boys, Sir Paul McCartney, Oasis and U2.
