Winslet makes British Film Awards list

Kate Winslet and Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle have been shortlisted for this year's Evening Standard British Film Awards.

The award could be the icing on the cake for Winslet who took home two Golden Globes earlier this week.

She is up against Samantha Morton for her take on Marilyn Monroe in Mister Lonely and Tilda Swinton for the title role in Erick Zonca's Julia.

Slumdog Millionaire was the biggest winner at the Golden Globes, scooping four awards, including best picture and best director for Boyle.

Now it is up for another three accolades in the Film Award shortlist - Boyle for best director, the film's young star Dev Patel for most promising newcomer, and production designer Mark Digby for technical achievement.

Boyle will compete against Stephen Daldry for The Reader and Lenny Abrahamson for Irish movie Garage.

The award for best film will be fought out between the international hit Frost/Nixon, the biopic about IRA prisoner Bobby Sands, Hunger, and low-budget British drama Unrelated.
