Hundreds of people have been mesmerised by a unidentified object in the sky in Rio de Janeiro.

However, it wasn't ET or any other alien creature hovering overhead. It's actually a seven meter light show by American artist Peter Coffin.

This is the second time Coffin has released his creation into a sea of thousands of cheering people.

He chose Rio because of its beauty and its high amount of extraterrestrial sightings.

But there was a warning. A few days earlier it was advertised on the news.

The travelling exhibit will be moved to another city in the next few months.

The location though is being kept strictly confidential.
