It has been revealed that the number of pensioners staying at work has continued to rise.
A 12-year study by the Office for National Statistics shows more older people are staying in work for reasons such as health and pension concerns.
Those with managerial, professional or "intermediate" jobs were more likely to be working, as were people with a degree.
Considerations such as having a mortgage or dependent children encouraged men to work. A lack of sufficient pension and a drop in house prices could also contribute.
The article said: "Individuals may need to extend their working lives as pension funds returns and housing wealth fall. The overall effect on employment among adults of older ages is still uncertain.
"The drivers of employment at older ages are complex and people's decisions to extend their working lives are affected by factors such as health, pension and accumulated wealth."
