Angelina Jolie highlights plight of refugees
Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has made an emotional speech at a World Refugee Day event in Washington DC.
"Refugees are not numbers. They're not even just refugees. They are mothers, and daughters and fathers and sons," the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador and actress said.
Jolie and husband Brad Pitt have have donated $1 million (£612,000) to the UN refugee agency providing aid to the hundreds of thousands of people uprooted by violence in Pakistan.
Jolie has visited refugees and internally displaced people in Pakistan on three missions since becoming goodwill ambassador for the agency in 2001.
The Oscar-winning actress took Pitt with her on one such visit in 2005.
She also commented on climate change: "The threat of climate change, the competition for resources, and ever growing global inequality have created deepening intractable conflicts."
