John Sergeant goes on tourist trail around UK They don't come for the weather, so why do around 32 million tourists flock to Britain every year? John Sergeant attempts to find out in his new series for ITV.

In the three-part programme, the journalist and broadcaster hangs out with holidaymakers from America trying to uncover their Scottish ancestry. The 65-year-old also follows a group of German bikers on a trip to the Isle Of Man.

While Sir Trevor McDonald was sent to the Caribbean for his series with the channel, the former Strictly Come Dancing star said he did not think he had drawn the short straw.

John said: "I was very pleased that it was going to be UK based. You can go abroad and say all sorts of things which may or may not be true, but if you're reporting on your own country, that's a bit more of a challenge."

John's jaunt across the nation sees a number of funny moments including dressing up as Mr Darcy meeting locals at Loch Ness. He also spends a night in Britain's most haunted castle.

John added: "It was terrifying! When people want to believe in something, you're half way to giving them the experience. So every time the doors creaked, or there's a noise, you're on the edge of your seat."
