Stars out for 9 to 5 Broadway bow
Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin have attended the opening night of 9 To 5: The Musical on Broadway.
The three actresses starred in the smash hit movie verson 28 years ago and seem delighted to see the story brought to a new audience.
Parton, who wrote and sang the film's famous theme song, said the stage adaptation had given her the opportunity to write more songs.
She said: "It gave me a chance to write some music. Of course you know 9 to 5 was all about the people - women in the workplace so I had an opportunity to write about 15 more songs about women taking over and being empowered."
The musical stars Allison Janney, Stephanie J Block and Megan Hilty who play the three colleagues who decide to get even with their sexist boss.
Fonda says it is ultimately a story about people who have been kept down and who reach a boiling point.
"People who aren't recognised and treated fairly decide they've had enough - women in particular - and they take over," she said.
"And the best of all is when they take over business improves."
While the women were clearly thrilled that 9 to 5 was coming back to life via Broadway, they said it was also nostalgic to hear the songs again.
"It was awfully interesting and a little bit surreal when we saw it in LA," said Tomlin.
"But it was so much fun and yet it brought back so many memories, it was a bittersweet experience to think that we were still living up there in some way."
