Hip-Hop royalty at Beyoncé premiere

Hip-hop royalty have turned out in New York for the premiere of Beyoncé's new film.

Although there was no sign of Jay Z - leaving his wife as the main attraction - P Diddy and Akon stepped out on the red carpet for the unveiling of Cadillac Records.

Beyoncé stars alongside Oscar-winner Adrien Brody as soul legend Etta James.

Beyoncé said of James: "She is a living legend and it makes it even more daunting that she's here to witness, and to judge, and say if she loves it or hates it... She seemed to love it."

Cadillac Records chronicles the birth of modern-day rock 'n' roll and the unique voices of James, Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry - played by rapper Mos Def.

All were discovered by a poor Polish immigrant, Leonard Chess, played by The Pianist star Brody.

Beyoncé said of Chess: "It's unreal. He was really gifted, he had a great ear, and if it wasn't for him there would be no Motown, there would be no me. He was the first and he's part of our history."
