Bolton manager Gary Megson is convinced defender Gary Cahill will play for England soon.

Megson said he was surprised Cahill was not called into the squad for the friendly against Germany once Rio Ferdinand was ruled out.

Michael Mancienne, an under-21 international on loan from Chelsea to Wolves, was called up instead.

Megson said: "I wouldn't swap Gary for too many in this country.

"When England send their scouts out, Gary has to play well on that occasion.

"He's got to keep doing what he's doing and I'm sure his chance will come eventually."
