Pornstar teams up with Oscar-winning director

Sasha Grey is no average Hollywood star.

Steven Soderbergh's latest muse is a veteran of the adult entertainment industry, having starred in around 185 pornographic films since her career began at the age of 18.

The Girlfriend Experience, her first major mainstream movie, tells the story of Christine, a high-priced escort who specialises in providing a "girlfriend experience" for her clients - simulating the emotional and physical intimacy of a "normal" relationship.

Sasha described her time on set as "sickly similar" to working on an adult film shoot.

While her character's profession is very different to her own, her career and knowledge of the adult industry were crucial in developing her role and performance.

The Girlfriend Experience opens in selected cinemas on Friday December 4.
