Man admits cruelty offences in Khyra Ishaq case

A man accused of starving his partner's seven-year-old daughter to death has pleaded guilty to five counts of child cruelty.

Junaid Abuhamza, who denies the murder of Khyra Ishaq, admitted cruelty charges relating to five other children during a hearing at Birmingham Crown Court.

Abuhamza, 30, is expected to go on trial alongside Khyra's mother, 34-year-old Angela Gordon.

The couple are charged with murdering Khyra, who was pronounced dead after paramedics were called to her Birmingham home in the early hours of May 17 last year.

Abuhamza and Gordon, of Leyton Road, Handsworth, face an alternative charge of "causing or allowing" the youngster's death.
