Flood victims count cost of damage Hundreds of people are counting the cost of torrential rain which caused flooding across the UK and forced many to flee their homes.

Scotland was worst hit by the downpours. Houses in the coastal town of Stonehaven have been badly damaged and around 100 people were rescued from flooded properties in Huntly, Aberdeenshire.

Raymond Strachan, 55, who has lived in Huntly for 12 years, said: "I've never seen flooding like this before. It was a torrent."

He estimated the cost of the damage to his property would be between £10,000 and £15,000.

In Wales, five adults and a baby were rescued from two houses in Meidrim, Carmarthenshire.

Two women were also stuck in floodwater in their car in Landore, Swansea, and four people were stuck in two cars near Newcastle Emlyn.
