Impressive Andy Murray cruises into fourth round
Andy Murray has again ratcheted up the expectations of British tennis fans, by gliding into the last 16 at Wimbledon with a towering straight-sets victory over Viktor Troicki.
The Serb was totally outclassed in a 6-2 6-3 6-4 third-round demolition which lasted just one hour and 36 minutes.
The British number one can now look ahead to his match with Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka in the next round on Monday. On current form, it will take an extraordinary slip-up to stop him reaching next Sunday's final.
Troicki, ranked number 31 in the world, never stood a chance. His nerves as a Centre Court debutant betrayed him in the sixth game of the first set.
He threw in two double faults and put a weak forehand into the net to gift Murray the crucial service break.
The British number one cashed in on more Troicki errors - and offered up very few himself - to break once again and secure the set.
Murray was obviously reading the unusual Troicki service action and the Scot broke serve for the third consecutive time in the second game of the second set.
The young Scot's superiority was demonstrated again as he closed out Troicki's service game at the start of the third set.
The Serb's lob sailed over Murray's head and the point looked won, but the dogged Scot turned, ran the ball down and threw up a better lob of his own.
With the serve broken, the end was inevitable and Murray served out to complete the rout.
