Afghanistan troops kill 23 Taliban fighters
Afghan and foreign troops have killed around 23 Taliban fighters in ground and air assaults during an operation in the southern Tirin Kot district.
The provincial governor, Mohammad Ashraq Nasiri, said that Taliban militants gunned down a detective and his police bodyguard in the provincial capital, Qalat.
Four Taliban insurgents have also been killed after ambushing an Afghan army patrol in the southern Arghandab district, Mr Nasiri said.
