Actor Shia LaBeouf has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in Los Angeles, after an early morning crash in which the Indiana Jones star injured his hand and knee.

LaBeouf was trying to make a left turn at a West Hollywood intersection when his pickup collided with another vehicle, rolling the truck over.

Sergeant Tressa Guennels, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said: "A call for service was received regarding a traffic accident at Fountain and La Brea. There was a two-car accident involving Mr LaBeouf.

"As a result of that traffic accident, both vehicles were damaged to the point of needing to be towed away. And Mr LaBeouf was the only one that sustained injuries".

A woman passenger in LaBeouf's truck and the driver of the other vehicle were not seriously injured.

Police said LaBeouf was booked then released for misdemeanor DUI, or driving under the influence.

"Based on the information that our deputies on the scene gathered, as well as statements and other information, we were led to believe that this collision occurred as a result of someone driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol," Sergeant Guennels said.

The 22-year-old actor was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre and was being treated for injuries to the hand.

LaBeouf starred in last year's summer smash hit Transformers and this year appears opposite Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
