German couple go Christmas crackers

A German couple have brought their own brand of festive cheer to their neighbourhood by decorating their house with hundreds of lights and mechanical Santas.

Bernhard and Michaela Nermerich don't just decorate a Christmas tree - they do the whole entire house.

Visitors travel from far and wide to marvel at the spectacle at the Nermerich's home in Kelkheim.

"We have been decorating the house since 2002, and it just gets more and more, there are always new things to add," said Bernhard.

"The children are starting to come in summer and ask what new things there will be at Christmas, but I tell them to wait for the surprise.

"If we are visiting a fair or we are abroad and we see something we like, my wife and I, then we buy it.

"Our reward are the children's smiling faces but we are also doing it for charity, we collect donations for the children's clinic at the local hospital."
