Scarlett's mother's cover-up claims

The mother of a British teen murdered in India believes she knows the identity of one of the killers.

The body of 15-year-old Scarlett Keeling was found on Anjuna Beach, Goa, where she was on holiday, on February 19. Her family was travelling elsewhere in the region at the time.

Police initially said the teenager died from accidental drowning, but her mother, Fiona MacKeown, maintained her daughter was attacked.

A second post-mortem examination revealed Scarlett was raped and killed, and that she had taken Ecstasy, cocaine and LSD on the night she died.

Mrs MacKeown claims the authorities have tried to cover up what happened to her daughter because the man responsible is a "powerful person" with money and connections in Goa.

Mrs MacKeown, who has arrived back in Britain after returning to the place where her daughter died, said a number of locals had named the man and his group to her and she had passed the information on to investigators from the Indian Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) who are due to take over the case.

The 43-year-old, from Bradworthy, north Devon, had gone back to India to try to find out what had happened to her daughter's organs, which had been removed without her permission in a post-mortem examination.

She said parts of Scarlett's uterus, kidneys, stomach and liver were taken and is hoping they are returned so she can bury her daughter.

The Indian government told Mrs MacKeown the request for the organs to be returned was "unprecedented" and there was no system in place for it to be carried out.

Mrs MacKeown claims that links between police officials, politicians and the drugs mafia have hampered a proper investigation into her daughter's death.

She said that she hoped the CBI would invite Scotland Yard to become involved in the investigation in a bid to bring Scarlett's killers to justice.

Mrs MacKeown said: "We have had confirmation that a certain person is involved. He is a powerful person with money.

"I am waiting for the CBI inquiry to start and I will tell them everything I know. It would explain a lot - why the police have tried to cover it up.

"I was approached by many people who told me this man's name. It is common knowledge out there it seems.

"People are saying that they have had enough of him and his group and they want something done about it.

"I don't think he will get away with it once the CBI take over because they don't take instruction from anyone."

Mrs MacKeown also said she had had no contact from Bollywood director Prabhakar Shukla who is reportedly planning to make a film of the case.

She said: "I think it is a bit early, to be honest. If it is to show the corrupt officials in Goa then it could be a good idea.

"But I hear he is going to call it Rave Party, which doesn't sound good. But I will see what he says if he wants to meet me."

Police in Goa have arrested two men, Samson D'Souza, 28, who was remanded in custody on suspicion of rape, and Placido Carvalho, aged 30 to 35, who has appeared in court on suspicion of drugging Scarlett and assisting in the murder by that act.
