Car passengers survive cliff plunge
Four female car passengers have walked away relatively unscathed after plunging off a 100ft cliff into a rock pool below.
Their Nissan Note failed to negotiate a bend and crashed through fencing at the seafront in North Tyneside at 12.15am, ending up in a former outdoor swimming pool.
The friends amazing only suffered minor injuries.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "It [the car] came to a halt in a tidal salt water pool known as the Sealife Rock Pool.
"Fortunately, the tide was out."
Officers have launched an inquiry into the crash.
