Scientists unveil 'robot of future'

A robot designed in Japan has been engineered to co-habit with people in future societies.

The talking robot, named Twenty-One, is programmed to mirror even the most difficult human manoeuvres.

Waseda University unveiled their latest robot at an event in Tokyo and highlighted its ability to pick up even the most difficult of objects.

The robot is nearly 5ft tall and boasts agile co-ordination, including sensory, vision and movement capabilities.

One hand alone has 13 sensors for delicate movement, and is covered with silicone skin to imitate the softness of human skin.

The robot's hands have only four fingers and have soft joints, installed with springs, to create safer movement to interact with humans.

The robot could be used to assist the elderly, helping them to stand up or transferring from the bed to a wheelchair.
