Climate change protesters have attempted to block the entrance to domestic departures at Manchester Airport.

Campaigners from the group Plane Stupid linked arms to obstruct passengers from passing through security for entry to the departure lounge.

A spokesman for Manchester Airport said the protesters had not passed through security checks.

He added: "They seem to be blockading the entry to the security through into the departure lounge.

"At the moment passengers cannot get through to security, but we do have alternative ways of getting passengers through."

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "Police are currently working with airport staff to arrange alternative ways for passengers to get into the departure lounge, and continue to monitor the situation."
