Tyson jailed for drug possession

Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has been given a jail sentence for drug possession and drink-driving.

Tyson, 41, was arrested in Arizona on December 29, 2006, when he was spotted driving his Black BMW erratically and nearly collided with a sheriff's vehicle.

He pleaded guilty two months ago to possession of cocaine and driving under the influence,

At a court in Mesa, the ex-boxer was given a sentence of ten days in jail, but will only serve just 24 hours, as well as being given three years probation.

According to court documents, when officers approached Tyson's vehicle, they saw him wiping a white substance off the dashboard. Authorities found bags of cocaine in Tyson's pocket and in his car.

In 1992, Tyson was convicted of rape in Indiana. In 1999, he pleaded no contest to misdemeanour assault charges in Maryland.
