Eight arrested over Antigua murders

Eight people have been arrested over the deaths of Ben and Catherine Mullany in Antigua.

They are in custody and are being interviewed by officers on the Caribbean island, police said.

Inspector Cornelius Charles said some of them were "prime suspects" and more arrests may be made.

Two women aged 32 and 22 were charged in connection with the murders of the newlyweds on Thursday.

They appeared before magistrates in the island's capital St John's and were remanded in custody.

It is understood they were charged with offences relating to property stolen from the Mullanys' holiday cottage.

The newlyweds were killed after apparently falling victim to a bungled robbery while on their honeymoon in Antigua.

Mr and Mrs Mullany, both 31, from Pontardawe, south Wales, were shot in the head in their cottage at the Cocos Hotel and Resort in the south-west of the Caribbean island on the last day of their holiday on July 27.

The couple were buried on Wednesday at the church in Wales where they wed last month.
