Maclaren buggy warning over 'lost fingers' Extra warnings will be put on some Maclaren buggies amid fears they can cut off children's fingertips.

The UK company has said it will not be recalling the pushchairs in the UK but will put warning labels on the buggy and in the instruction manual stressing children should be kept clear of it while it is being unfolded or folded.

The move follows the announcement that the company recalled around one million folding pushchairs in the United States after reports that 12 children had their fingertips cut off when they were caught in the hinges.

All Maclaren single and double umbrella pushchairs, including the popular Volo and Techno models, were voluntarily recalled by the firm in the US.

Maclaren USA announced on Monday that it is providing customers and retailers with a kit to cover the "elbow joint" on the hinge mechanism.

But the company has said the measures would not apply to the UK or the rest of Europe.

A statement said: "Maclaren buggies meet - and often exceed - both EU and USA safety standards for products in our category and there have been no product defects or non-compliances."
