United up for Carling Cup success

Nemanja Vidic has warned Tottenham that Manchester United are desperate for success in Sunday's Carling Cup final.

The defender might be in line to win the PFA player of the year prize for his exploits at the back, but he's admitted that he still dreams of scoring the winning goal in a major cup final.

Vidic has already scored six times this term, including crucial efforts against Sunderland and Chelsea, and after missing United's Champions League encounter with Inter Milan due to suspension, he is eager to make amends against Spurs on Sunday.

"I love that feeling when you score," he said. "It is fantastic as a defender because it is not one of your main jobs. I always try to score when I can by taking up good positions in the box and going up for corners. If you get lucky, it is brilliant."

Vidic has been one of the key players in United's charge for five trophies this season, and while team-mate Ryan Giggs may be an emotional choice for the player of the year crown, the Serbian is a more likely choice.

Vidic is happy to accept any plaudits that come his way, saying: "Why not enjoy the limelight? You play football to do the best you can and try to improve yourself in every game and training session. The aim is to do well and get the team flying high."

United are expected to play several youngsters in Sunday's final, with the likes of Darron Gibson, Danny Welbeck, Ben Foster and even Fabio Da Silva hoping to line-up alongside Vidic, as the Red Devils hope to secure their first domestic trophy of the season.
