Iran release video of clash

Iran has released a video which contradicts America's claim that Iran threatened US Navy vessels.

On Wednesday the Pentagon released a video which it claimed proved Iran had menaced US ships.

But Iran's video, aired by Iran's Press TV satellite station, gave an entirely different version of Sunday's incident, which happened in the Strait of Hormuz.

The video was released by Iran's Revolutionary Guards a day after it claimed the Pentagon's video was a fake, including a recording of the exchange between the two sides.

It is yet another sign of the increasing tension between Washington and Tehran, who continue to disagree over Iran's nuclear programme.

Senior figures of Iran's Navy have said they only approached the US ships to check the registration numbers.

The video shows an exchange in which an Iran naval officer asks the crew on board the US ship to identify themselves.

Iran has accused the US of creating a "media fuss" and said their actions were normal inspection of vessels.

The Pentagon video, however, showed a voice from a US ship informing one of the small craft that it was "straying into danger and may be subject to defensive measures".

According to the video, the craft responded: "You will explode after ... minutes."

Mr Bush warned Iran on Wednesday of "serious consequences" if it attacked US ships in the Gulf.
