No punishment over Scottish boos

The Scottish Football Association will not be punished for the jeering of the Northern Ireland national anthem at Hampden Park.

The home fans ignored pleas and booed during God Save The Queen before the friendly match, which ended 0-0.

Uefa has no authority over friendly matches but their spokesman William Gaillard also admitted the European authority does not have a system to punish disrespect of a national anthem.

Mr Gaillard said: "Friendly matches are in the domain of Fifa, it is not Uefa's responsibility.

"Unfortunately this is not a new thing but there are no sanctions we can impose.

"We ran a successful campaign during the European Championships to get fans to respect their opponents' national anthems. It's about education and we can only hope that respect is shown."

Only 28,000 fans attanded the match, with 7,000 supporting Northern Ireland.

A Scottish Football Association statement read: "The SFA is obviously disappointed that a minority of of our fans chose not to respect the visitors' national anthem.

"The Tartan Army have a richly-deserved reputation as fantastic ambassadors for their country.

"We do not condone this kind of behaviour."
