Teacher quizzed over attempted murder
A teacher is being questioned by police on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly attacking three pupils.
Science teacher Peter Harvey was arrested on Wednesday morning after schoolboy Jack Waterhouse sustained a serious head injury after allegedly being attacked at All Saints' Roman Catholic School in Mansfield, Notts.
The 14-year-old was transferred for specialist treatment after his condition deteriorated during the afternoon.
Harvey, 49, is also being questioned about assaults on another boy and a girl at the school at the same time.
Officers were called to the school after paramedics arrived to find Jack unconscious in a pool of blood at the entrance to a classroom in the science block.
Detective Superintendent Adrian Pearson, who is leading the investigation, said: "A 49-year-old local man is in custody at the moment and it is appropriate to say he has also been arrested on suspicion of assaulting two further children at the time of the incident."
He added: "The family of Jack Waterhouse have agreed to release a photograph of their son in response to media interest.
"However, they do so with the express wish that their privacy is respected and that they are left alone to support him through this extremely difficult period."
Parents at the school gates said Jack was allegedly hit with a weight.
