A beauty pageant for transsexuals and transvestites has taken place in the Philippines.

Twenty-three hopefuls battled it out in swimsuit and evening gown events for the title of Ms Amazing Philippines Beauty 2007.

For many of those taking part the stage is a refuge - where they can flaunt their femininity.

The winner received a cash prize and a one-year contract to perform in a theatrical variety show.
