Teen charged with bike robbery

A 17-year-old has been charged with robbing a young woman who was knocked off her bicycle on a busy street.

Jane Gauntlett, a 25-year-old student from Camden, north London, was left fighting for her life after being ambushed by moped robbers while cycling in the west of the city.

Her black leather handbag was snatched and the attack led to her falling off her bike and hitting her head.

She suffered serious head injuries and was in a coma in a hospital intensive care unit for two weeks.

Scotland Yard said the youth will appear in custody at West London Youth Court accused of the robbery in Harrow Road on February 3.

He is also charged with a robbery in which a handbag was stolen in Finchley Road, north west London, later the same day.

Police said no further action was being taken against seven others arrested in connection with the inquiry.
